April 27th, 2015
In few days USA people will celebrate one of the most important festivities in the year: the Thanksgiving Day, which falls in 2014 on November 27th (as usual, the fourth Thursday of the current month). The food traditionally associated with this day includes stuffed turkey, pumpkin soup, potato puree, salad, green beans, to conclude with brownies or pumpkin pie. It is interesting to note that the present menu is the result of an evolutive process through the centuries: ingredients such as potatoes and sugar had not already gained a staple role in the diet at the time of the first Thanksgiving celebrations (between the Sixteenth and Seventeenth century), or alternatively were still too expensive.
Despite being outside the range of Roman local festivities, the Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated in the Eternal City as well with special events, including dedicated menù all around the city center for the American guests (and not only, of course!). The cafeteria at Norman Rockwell’s exhibition venue, for instance, will have the traditional roast turkey with chestnut stuffing and bilberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Cinecittà World (the biggest amusement park dedicated to Italian cinema industry) will offer special entrance fee and programmes.
